Bridge the gap between siloed data and actionable energy insights through expert-led collaboration.
The Energy Data Working Group is the strategic core of the Energy Data Innovation Hub (EDIH). Founded by the organizers of the Energy Data Hackdays, we provide the continuity and high-level expertise needed to transform the Swiss energy landscape into a data-driven ecosystem. We serve as the active bridge between research, industry, and the public sector.
As Switzerland moves toward a decentralized, renewable future, data is the stabilizing force that makes this transition possible. We ensure that this data is not just available, but useful.
Our Three Pillars of Action
Innovation doesn’t end when a hackathon is over. We act as the year-round engine of the EDIH, turning prototypes into policy and data into action through three primary focuses:
1. Expert Exchange & Deep Dives
We host exclusive, quarterly sessions curated for ~30 energy experts and data scientists. These meetings ensure high-level networking and deep technical discussions on regulatory shifts, grid stability, and emerging technologies like AI, IoT, and 5G.
2. From Prototype to Project
While the Hackdays spark brilliant ideas, the Working Group provides the continuity needed to scale them. We help "Challenge Owners"—ranging from startups to major utilities like Swissgrid and BKW—move their data-driven prototypes into real-world industrial applications.
3. Advocating for Open Standards
We work closely with the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE) and industry partners to advocate for better data accessibility. Our mission is to build a shared, transparent ecosystem—a "Swiss Hub for Energy Data"—that facilitates the exchange of production and consumption data across the nation.
The Format: High-Impact Sessions
Our meetings are designed for efficiency and depth, moving beyond standard presentations into real-world application.
- Frequency: Quarterly recurring events.
- Duration: 1–2 hours of focused, expert-led discussion on trend topics.
- Atmosphere: Each session concludes with a hosted Apéro, providing the informal space where the most valuable partnerships are often forged.
- Hosting: Location, technical content, and catering are generously provided by our rotating Hosting Partners from across the industry.
Core Goals & Impact

Host a Session
Are you a utility, tech provider, or research institution? Hosting a Working Group session positions your organization at the center of the Swiss energy data conversation. You provide the space and the apéro; we provide the community and the expertise.
-
Direct Access to Decision-Makers
-
Engage in off-the-record dialogues with senior leaders from the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE), major utilities, and top-tier researchers. This is where policy and technical
-
Early Intelligence on Trends
-
Get a "first look" at emerging regulatory changes, new grid stability protocols, and pilot project results before they hit the mainstream market.
-
Collaborative Problem Solving
-
Bring your specific data hurdles to a room full of peers. These sessions use a "hive mind" approach to troubleshoot issues by sharing best practices and first-hand experiences.
-
Curated Networking (Quality over Quantity)
-
With attendance strictly capped at roughly 30 participants, you skip the small talk and dive straight into meaningful partnerships with the country’s leading data scientists and energy engineers.
-
Bridging Research and Industry
-
Benefit from a unique knowledge transfer where academic breakthroughs from institutions like the Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) are translated into practical, industrial applications for your business.
-
Influence the Open Data Roadmap
-
Have a direct say in which datasets are prioritized for release and how Swiss energy data standards are shaped for the future.
